Catalina Guirado

 

Catalina Guirado made her name as a London ‘It Girl’ fashion model in the 90s before becoming a household name as a television host and celebrity being part of the ‘Cool Britannia’ Britpop scene in the UK. After moving to Los Angeles in 2001 for a change of scenery and to escape the tabloids after being signed to Universal Music Publishing. She gradually moved behind the camera and developed her entrepreneurial skills becoming a creator and director of one of the first digital music streaming sites in 2008 and then as a creative consultant before taking over the rebranding of her father, internationally acclaimed Spanish painter, Juan Antonio Guirado’s art estate after his passing in 2010. Today she lives between Los Angeles and London making regular appearances on television, taking special bookings for modeling in the UK, and continuing her role as President of the Guirado Art Estate. She continues her artistic talents in her boutique businesses as a textiles designer and digital artist as well as consulting on art social marketing and special events.

It all started in…..

The 90’s

MODEL

Following a hugely successful international career in fashion as a top UK model, Catalina has been featured on covers and in magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, FHM, and Maxim (including the sexiest women of the year top 100), Loaded, Sky magazine and many more.  She also was the face of international campaigns for Lynx body spray, Dove, Wella, Puma, Toni & Guy and walked the runway for designers including Vivienne Westwood, Michiko Koshino, Rifat Ozbec, and Scott Henshall during London and Milan Fashion Weeks. In 2004 was featured in Esquire Magazine’s ‘30 Most Eligible Women’ along with Liz Hurley and Kylie Minogue.

TELEVISION

She was a big fixture of the Brit-pop Cool Britannia scene in the '90s as an ‘It Girl Model’ hanging out with friends Prodigy, Oasis, All Saints, Suede, Supergrass, etc. at London's infamous 90s celeb haunt The Met Bar.  Catalina soon became a household name in the UK, launching her television career as Chris Evan’s sidekick ‘Gorgeous Girl’ on the award-winning and cult weekly late-night show in the UK, TFI Friday on CH4. She was part of the ‘ladette’ gang of female girl-power TV hosts in the Uk in the 90s and paved the way for models transitioning to TV hosts (today’s normal) hosting Catalina's Clips on Granada TV and VH1.  Her celebrity status grew when she appeared in the second season of the award-winning ITV reality show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in the Australian Jungle. Thus followed a string of reality-based TV shows; including Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes in 2003 as Blondie. Back To Reality, Single in the City, Summer in Saint Tropez, Celebrities Under Pressure, Celebrity Love Island. Catalina has had over 20 guest appearances spots on popular UK Shows: This morning, Ready Steady Cook, and Pop Stars. Celebrity Weakest Link, Bo’ Selecta, and many more. She has been second only to David Beckham in the most press coverage of anyone else in any UK publication during a specific period of time.  

2000’s

MUSIC CAREER

Signing a music publishing deal with Universal Music in 2000 Catalina has worked with members of Echo and the Bunnymen, Super Furry Animals, and others in the UK-based ‘supergroup’, The Serpents. She has written songs alongside Henry Priestman, Guy Batson, David Basset & Alex van Souus had songs optioned by Blondie, and many more. Catalina also worked as an A&R screener for an Independent A&R company, screening artists and songs for major labels as well as writing songwriting critiques.

CREATIVE EXECUTIVE

Switching from talent to executive in 2007 as a director and one of the creators of multimillion-dollar start-up LP33.tv, one of the first web platforms and music streaming tv sites for emerging artists backed by music heavyweights.  Responsible for artist acquisition, record label collaborations, live music production, and the first live streaming for SXSW in 2009. Catalina was the ‘face’ of the music web TV company at SXSW and took a Brit-style look at the music festival by interviewing artists such as White Lies and Pendulum and new rising stars of the music industry at the event itself. After leaving LP33.tv in 2009 She continued as an executive consultant and TV host for special events such as the Sunset Strip music festival and McDonald’s music TV. On leaving the company she created her own boutique PR group BritchickPR focusing on fashion, art, and music.

2010 +

ART ENTREPRENEUR

 Following the death of her father, internationally acclaimed Spanish artist Juan Antonio Guirado in 2010, Catalina was made the sole director of the acclaimed artist’s estate and has spent the last 10 years as head of the art estate positioning herself as an expert in art event planning, curation, estate structuring and marketing of artists. Having been interviewed for Spanish television and radio on the subject she also hosted a Soho House breakfast talk on Art and Virtual Reality and has been featured in the major international press for her work in art and design including Vanity Fair, LOVE, ELLE, L’Officiel Arte, AD Magazine, Marie Claire and Arte. She has also curated and overseen the production of international museum exhibits in Spain, the UK, and the US attended by Spanish royalty, prominent members of society, A-list celebrities, and art collectors.

DESIGNER

Forming Guirado Legacy in 2014 she crafted a design vibe brand that maintains the philosophy of Guirado’s art accenting spirituality, sustainability, and regard for our planet. As Creative Director she combines influences from the Mediterranean, boho Californian beach life, and London rock chic for the perfect fusion of art, design, music, and fashion to create a completely unique and thoughtful luxury experience that has attracted collaborations with designers, hotels, and wellness studios. Digitally reworking select paintings with an emphasis on spiritual relevance and nature she has designed exclusive wallpaper and textiles for the Karma Sanctum Hotel Soho in London as well as celebrity rockstar clientele. Her collection of silk scarves was sold exclusively at London luxury design shop The Clerkenwell before it closed in 2017 and featured in editorial magazines including AD Architectural Diary, Good Housekeeping, and Tatler. She recently created an equestrian design brand called Caballo Design creating fashion-focused HiViz UV & moisture-wicking sports tops for riding and outdoor activities.

PERSONAL LIFE

She married British guitarist Matt Cheadle in 2006 and they live in Los Angeles and London. A lifelong equestrian and ‘Horse Girl’ Catalina has a pure-bred Arabian show horse named Farah ( show name Billie-Jean SW) and spends most of her free time at the barn! A huge animal lover Catalina also has two rescue Cats Bertie ( a Bengal cross) and Sophie ( a lynx point siamese) and contributes to as many animal charities as she can. She is currently plotting how to get an Afghan Hound without her husband noticing!
